Speak the way you talk, half Hindi, half English, changing your mind halfway. Vaani types it the way you'd have typed it yourself.
Correct yourself mid-sentence and only the correction gets typed. Say nahi, no or matlab and Vaani drops the words you took back.

The speech engine writes Hindi in Devanagari. Vaani turns it into Roman letters, the way you'd type on WhatsApp, and English words come back as English: invoice, not इनवॉइस.

Stutters, fillers and doubled words disappear. Say "question mark" and you get one. Numbers come out Indian style, lakh and crore included. Every rule has its own switch in Settings, so nothing gets tidied that you wanted kept.

Hold your key in any app, talk, let go. The text lands right where you were typing. Pick the key by pressing it, and give each keyboard its own if you like.
Words it keeps getting wrong? Add them to your dictionary once. Vaani fixes them, and nudges the speech engine to hear them right next time.
Dashed ones get the text pasted instead of typed. Why, in "Kya abhi theek nahi" below.
While you talk, a small bubble floats above your Dock. Bars, a liquid drop, or your words scrolling past as they're heard. Switch between them straight from the menu bar.

The speech models run on your Mac's own chip. Your voice and your words never leave it.
If macOS says the app "is damaged", run xattr -cr /Applications/Vaani.app once in Terminal, then open it again. It's the same check being stricter.
Better you hear it here than find out mid-sentence.

Only to download the speech model the first time (470 MB for English, 600 MB for Hindi & Hinglish), and for the once-a-day update check, which you can switch off. Dictation itself works offline.
In Settings, "I speak" has two choices. English, or Hindi, Hinglish & other languages. If you ever mix Hindi in, pick the second one. Vaani chooses the right speech engine for you.
Apple charges developers a yearly fee to register apps. Vaani isn't registered, so macOS asks you to confirm once with Open Anyway. After that it opens normally.
Not yet. This is a pre-release: it's in daily use, but you'll likely run into a few bugs. Fixes arrive as updates, and Vaani tells you when one is out.
Vaani checks byshrey.com once a day and shows "Update available" in its menu. It never downloads anything by itself.
Quit Vaani from its menu, drag it from Applications to the Bin, and delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Vaani, which holds your history, dictionary and speech models.
Not for now. It needs an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) on macOS 26.
